I decided early on that I would straddle visual creation from two perspectives by maintaining an arts practice as well as a commercial enterprise simultaneously. I've managed to do both since 1980. After years of extensive travel as an editorial and commercial photographer then filmmaker, working across fine arts, corporate communications, marketing, education and documentary, I currently enjoy teaching and cultivating a lively production industry in Durham Region Ontario. Working from Cannington as a base of operations, I have and continue to pursue excellence in high impact communications and branded video production while clinging to my passion for contemporary Indigenous art.
Bernard Leroux is Executive Producer at Northlight Pictures; begining as a commercial and editorial photographer in the early 1980s, then evolving in to an award-winning commercial director / cinematographer by 1987. Leroux's career traverses a wide creative spectrum covering 5 continents, with many assignments and exhibitions throughout Europe, Asia, Scandinavia, US and Canada - most recently Africa. Bernard brings a global perspective to your project whether cultural, conceptual, commercial, corporate or educational.
"Ongoing, I am developing an array of scripts, collaborating with copywriters, art directors, creative directors, activists, advertisers and directly with clients in a wide range of environments to develop and produce creative concepts. With the digital revolution, the lines drawn from concept to completion have changed forever, but by adapting quickly to the ongoing industry's evolution, I have continually expanded my repertoire both as a techincian and communicator."
"Concurrent to working in the commercial field, I have constantly pursued my interests as a visual artist through photography, film, painting and drawing. After graduation from The Ontario College of Art in 1980, I mounted my first photo-based exhibit entitled Cameraworks at Gallery 76 in Toronto ; a series of multi-media collage works investigating identity and family history. I have since gone on to exhibit throughout the U.S. Italy, Denmark and across Canada." Recently I have completed a Masters of Fine Art at Ontario College of Art and Design University which included several exhibitions and a published thesis paper entitled Traces Retraced:Reconstructing Identity. A complete arts resume is available on request.
