Working in collaboration with Thunder Bay's NAN Legal Services, Paul Chaput gleaned and penned an incredibly realiztic script about what happens to a troubled youth when he goes through the Child Welfare system. By pouring over case studies, Chaput was able to condense and skillfully craft a script that has helped many Indigenous families navagate the legal system in Northern Ontario. The project extended it's reach by being later translated into Cree for a wider distribution to the north.
Programs such at that depicted in the video, are not only changing the legal landscape for native people in Ontario but by implementing culturally sensitive practices into the system, run by native people, we are actually releaving the mainstream system of an enourmous load and at the same time deliverying culturally relevant services to our people.
